How long does a background check take to complete in retail?

I got called in for two interviews with Coach this past two weeks. Last week, Tuesday Oct 12, they wanted to Run A Background Check on me before they hire. I was wondering how long does it take for a Background Check In retail?

It largely depends on the service they are using and your personal history. My company uses HireRight, and a normal background check averages 24 hours. Of course, if it’s run on Friday, it won’t come back until Monday. It may take longer on holidays as well. If you’ve moved around a lot or have many violations, the check may take longer, especially if you’ve moved across state lines. I’ve seen them take a couple of weeks in cases like that.

But if you don’t have any violations, and you’ve been at your present address for awhile (say, three years or more), it should take less than 24 hours.

Sometimes it takes employers a bit longer to submit the background check. Maybe they only submit once per week. If you are not hired based on the information on the background check, they are required to notify you via email or regular mail with the full text of the check.
